Pregnancy Milestones & Typical Screening Windows
The appointments and checkpoints most pregnancies pass, in order — described as typical windows, because schedules vary and your provider sets yours.
Use this page to understand what each window is for, then confirm actual dates with your healthcare provider. Nothing here is a recommendation for your individual care.
| Typical window | Milestone | What it typically involves |
|---|---|---|
| Weeks 6–10 | First prenatal visit | Often the first contact: history, blood pressure, blood tests, and confirming the pregnancy and its dating. |
| Weeks 11–14 | First-trimester scan & screening window | A dating scan (the most reliable for setting the due date) and, where offered, screening tests that may include a nuchal translucency measurement and blood work. |
| Weeks 15–20 | Second-trimester screening (where offered) | Optional blood-based screening in some systems, for those who missed or declined first-trimester screening. |
| Weeks 18–22 | Anatomy (anomaly) scan | A detailed ultrasound checking the baby's anatomy and growth, the placenta's position, and often the sex if you wish to know. |
| Weeks 24–28 | Glucose screening window | A blood test after a glucose drink, screening for gestational diabetes. |
| Week 28 | Third trimester begins | Appointments typically become more frequent; blood count and other checks may be repeated. |
| Weeks 32–36 | Growth & position checks | Your provider may track growth and check whether the baby is settling head-down. |
| Week 37 | Early term | The baby is considered early term; most systems increase monitoring as the due date approaches. |
| Week 40 | Estimated due date | An estimate, not a deadline — only around 5% of babies arrive on this day. |
| Weeks 41–42 | Post-dates monitoring | Extra monitoring is typical, and many guidelines discuss induction in this window. Your provider will advise. |
Please read: This calculator gives estimates only — it is not medical advice and cannot diagnose or date a pregnancy with certainty. Only around 5% of babies arrive on their estimated due date, and most arrive within a week or so either side. Ultrasound dating performed by a clinician takes precedence over any calculator result. Always confirm your dates, screening windows and care plan with your healthcare provider. All dates are processed locally in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
To turn these windows into your own dates, run the due date calculator — it lists the 11–14, 18–22 and 24–28 week windows for your estimated due date automatically.
